The “Duke” is back!
If you want to party likes it’s November 15th, 2001, you’re in luck. You can thank video game accessory manufacturer Hyperkin and Seamus Blackley, the creator of the Xbox for bringing this montrosity back into our lives. It’s rather amazing that Xbox gave the green light on this behemoth controller to be resurrected. Who doesn’t want to use a controller that’s as big as your face. I know we currently live in an age of retros and throwbacks but some things are better off left in the past. I remember how much I hated this controller when it was first released and how excited I was when Xbox released the “controller S”. Which was smaller and lighter than the original “Duke”. To be fair though I was also only a child when the Xbox was released so my memories of this controller are of sore hands, shoulders and an exhausted back from trying to hold this super sized controller in my little hands for hours of gaming.
As a gamer I believe this will be a waste of money but from my nostalgic side I believe this will be an absolute hit. This item will definitely bring back memories of your childhood. The controller is going to have the look and feel of the original but there will be a few differences.
The controller is going to have the look and feel of the original but there will be a few differences.
- The controller’s center jewel is now an OLED screen that will play the Xbox start up animation when pressed.
- The”Duke” will sport two shoulder buttons this time around (LB, RB).
- It will lose the memory card slot and add a usb cable.
As much as I joke about this controller I’m actually very interested in checking this out. If anything it will be a nice addition to a gaming collection.
.CNET is reporting that Hyperkin is aiming for a March release with a $70 price tag.
